Well, I've never had so many days off of work because of snow. Yesterday afternoon it started snowing again, and by this morning we had another foot of snow on top of the 2 feet of snow we got last week. We didn't take as many pictures this time around (the novelty has worn off), but here's a pic of Kyle shoveling the driveway. Unfortunately, there is nowhere to put the snow as you can see from the pile of snow that is still there from last week. Luckily, we have nowhere to go, so we are working from home and enjoying the beautiful snow with a fire & a Sex & the City marathon (ok, in all fairness, I'm the one enjoying the Sex & the City marathon).

To keep our minds off the cold and snow we posted pics from a warm time, our honeymoon trip to Kauai. Click on the bird to check out the pictures.

Over the past day and a half we've had 2 feet of snow, and it's still snowing! Western Union closed their offices, so I get to stay home with Kyle and the pups (of which we have 3 this week, as we're babysitting Kodi till Sunday). This is the one day it pays to work in an office, because when you work at home like Kyle does, there are no such things as snow days. Check out the pics from our walk this morning

I couldn't resist being like the overdramatic news, however we are having quite an epic blizzard here in Colorado. So far we have gotten about a foot of snow, but with the wind the drifts are pretty nutty. Our back deck has no snow on it at all and the middle of our back yard has only a couple inches but then we'll have a drift 3 feet high just a few feet away. I shoveled our driveway this afternoon and its all just about filled back in. Since I won't be able to run tomorrow morning I will get my exercise from shoveling. Even the dogs know better than to be outside in this weather, they go out to do their business, try to play a little but decide its just to nasty and high tail it back to the sofa.
They closed the Denver airport where about 1000 flights are cancelled and 5000 people are stranded. I-25 has been closed from Wyoming all the way down to New Mexico and I-70 has been closed to the Kansas border. At least we have the comfort of watching the chaos on our plasma tv.

Normally curtains wouldn't be much to talk about (and you may still think so after reading this), but this story has a little adventure in it. When Kyle and I were in Pittsburgh this summer we found this wicked cool curtain rod system at IKEA - we'd been looking everywhere for exactly this kind of hardware, so we were pretty excited when we found it (yes, we're lame). About a month later we decided to order it, but discovered that the curtains that IKEA sold to go with it were not sold online, and could ONLY be purchased at an IKEA store. Well, there are no IKEA's in Colorado, so we were outta luck. About a week ago, I found some fabric that I liked which we could make into curtains, but herein lies the problem - I do not sew. I was going to ask my friend K's mom to do it, but last Christmas when she came to visit I gave her a sewing project, so I felt kind of bad asking her again. So I decided I'd check out the local tailor and see how much they would charge - well here's where the story gets interesting. I was on my way there during my lunch break, driving on a road I'm never on, and I get pulled over for speeding. So now I'm out $100, and I have to go to court next month if I want to get some points knocked off. The tailor was only about 1/4 mile further - when I get there I'm in a pretty foul mood, but I was in an even fouler mood when they told me they were going to charge me $75 for the job! I really didn't think the task looked all that difficult, so I passed. So now I'm really annoyed because the $100 trip wasn't even worth it. I get back to work and I'm telling my friend Sarah what happened (the irony here is that just a few days before, she had warned me about cops sitting in the spot where I got pulled over because she lives just down the road - obviously, I forgot). She asked me why I was even in the area, so I told her about the curtains (of which there are three, which is hard to see from the picture because of their color) and she said "my mom & could help!" So Sarah & her mom took pity on me and did an absolutely fabulous job on the curtains. They spent their Sunday afternoon hemming curtains for me, so I wanted to thank them for a wonderful job and a happy ending to this now 5-month long saga.

On Thanksgiving day, Kyle, my dad & I ran in Wake Forest's Gobbler's Run, otherwise known as a Turkey Trot. Dad was kind enough to get up early (about 6:00 am) and check the weather - it was very rainy & cold the previous 2 days, so we all agreed if it was pouring out that we'd go back to bed! The roads were wet, but it was not raining, so we went. Since this was the 1st year for the race, the organizers had no idea they'd have so many partipants - there were over 400 people there, which was a great turnout (and a great fundraiser for the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club). The race started & ended at the club, so at least we could be inside before & after the race (it was only in the low 40's & cloudy, so it was pretty cold). It was a very nice course, winding through downtown Wake Forest. Kyle won with a great time of just under 17 minutes (that's just under a 5 1/2 minute mile!). Dad & I held our own, finishing at about 28 minutes. Barb, Elaine & David braved the cold morning to cheer us on. A good time was had by all, and we all felt a little less guilty eating Thanksgiving dinner later that day! Please see our Photos page for pics of the race.
