This blog is long overdue, so we apologize for the tardiness. Kyle and I ran the Bolder Boulder 10K again this year (this is now our 3rd year running it). You never know what kind of weather you might get in late May in CO (the race is always held on Memorial Day), but it was perfect this year - sunny & cool. This year there were over 50,000 runners, the biggest Bolder Boulder ever. Read More

A few weeks ago the local paper did an article on the upcoming Highlands Ranch Run Series. I have my picture in the article and was quoted a few times. The first race in this year's series is next week on St. Patrick's Day

On Thanksgiving day, Kyle, my dad & I ran in Wake Forest's Gobbler's Run, otherwise known as a Turkey Trot. Dad was kind enough to get up early (about 6:00 am) and check the weather - it was very rainy & cold the previous 2 days, so we all agreed if it was pouring out that we'd go back to bed! The roads were wet, but it was not raining, so we went. Since this was the 1st year for the race, the organizers had no idea they'd have so many partipants - there were over 400 people there, which was a great turnout (and a great fundraiser for the Wake Forest Boys & Girls Club). The race started & ended at the club, so at least we could be inside before & after the race (it was only in the low 40's & cloudy, so it was pretty cold). It was a very nice course, winding through downtown Wake Forest. Kyle won with a great time of just under 17 minutes (that's just under a 5 1/2 minute mile!). Dad & I held our own, finishing at about 28 minutes. Barb, Elaine & David braved the cold morning to cheer us on. A good time was had by all, and we all felt a little less guilty eating Thanksgiving dinner later that day! Please see our Photos page for pics of the race.

This year the Highlands Ranch Community Association held its second annual Run Series, which consisted of 7 races (all 5K's except for one 10K on the 4th of July) between March & September. All of the races are in Highlands Ranch, so no race is more than a couple of miles from our house (you can't beat that). This year they decided to not only give awards to the individual race winners, but to the overall winner. To qualify for the overall prize you had to compete in at least 5 of the 7 races. Kyle ran in 6 of the 7 races and won 5 of them - and so, he was crowned the HR Run Series champ!
Kyle ran in almost all of the races last year, and he's always running on the trails in our town, so he's become a familiar face to most (the long curly hair doesn't hurt either). He was in the paper after he won the last race and just last weekend we were at Starbucks (not a big shock for those of you who know us well) and the woman at the register recognized Kyle from the paper - so he's a bit of a local celeb! At one of the earlier races a producer for a local cable channel asked him to participate in a documentary he was doing on running in Highlands Ranch. He interviewed Kyle on more than one occasion and even filmed him running with Bronco & Izzy. We just watched it for the first time tonight and it's great - Kyle & the kids are so photogenic!
We've really enjoyed the Series and we're happy to see that they've already put up the schedule for next year. To date, I've preferred to be a spectator (the dogs and I cheer Kyle on and enjoy talking to our fellow HR residents), but next year there are two triathlons in the series so Kyle can sit those out and he and the dogs can cheer me on instead!
